TechHut.tv is operated by TechHut Media LLC, based in Washington State, United States. This policy explains how we handle information when you visit our website or communicate with us.
For privacy questions or requests, email brandon@techhut.tv. Brandon personally reviews and handles these requests for TechHut Media LLC.
You can opt out of website analytics or change your choice at any time.
Website visits and analytics
Hosting. Vercel hosts our website. Delivering pages and resources involves processing technical connection information, such as your IP address, requested URL, and browser information. Hosting and security logs support website delivery, troubleshooting, and protection against misuse.
Matomo. We use self-hosted Matomo to understand website use and compare traffic over time. Analytics can include pages visited, referring websites, visit times, interactions, browser and device information, and approximate location. Matomo runs on our Hetzner server in Hillsboro, Oregon, United States.
Our Matomo configuration disables analytics cookies and masks two bytes of IP addresses before storing them in analytics records. Matomo also uses the masked address to estimate location and enrich visit information. These settings apply to Matomo analytics records; they do not prevent servers from receiving connection information or control other providers' logs. We do not use session recordings or heatmaps.
Vercel Web Analytics. We also use Vercel Web Analytics for traffic statistics. Its documented data includes page URLs, referrers, timestamps, approximate location, and browser and device information. Vercel describes using a request-derived hash to distinguish visitors, with visitor sessions discarded after 24 hours. This is separate from how long traffic reports remain available. See Vercel's Web Analytics privacy information.
Vercel Speed Insights is disabled in our project dashboard. Our analytics preference control also covers its installed integration. We do not use Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager on this website; Google Workspace and YouTube are separate services described below.
Analytics choices and browser storage
Analytics is allowed by default. Visit Analytics preferences, also available through the Analytics opt-out link in the footer, to turn it off or allow it again. Opting out stops this website's Matomo, Vercel Web Analytics, and Speed Insights integrations in that browser. Saving a choice reloads the page so it takes effect.
We save your choice in browser local storage until you change it or clear site data. It has no scheduled expiry and applies only to this website in that browser. If your preference cannot be read, those analytics integrations stay off. Matomo may also store an opt-out preference cookie when stopping a tracker that has already loaded.
Opting out does not delete information already collected or control hosting/security logs, YouTube, external websites, or externally hosted resources. Contact us about information previously collected.
We also use browser storage to remember theme and navigation preferences. Article and app-directory searches filter data in your browser.
Email and applications
Google Workspace hosts our email. When you contact us, we receive your email address, message, and any information or attachments you provide. Applications may include a name, work history, portfolio, and other details you choose to send. We use correspondence to respond to enquiries, discuss partnerships, consider applications, and maintain business records.
Providing information by email is voluntary, although we may be unable to respond to an enquiry or assess an application without the relevant details. We do not send marketing emails or newsletters.
Partnerships and audience summaries
We work with Themidgame Inc., doing business as Makrwatch, to handle most partnership enquiries. Both TechHut and Makrwatch handle correspondence sent to partner@techhut.tv. Makrwatch staff can read and reply to partnership messages, including accessing sender details, message contents, and attachments.
Read Makrwatch's privacy policy for its published privacy practices.
Makrwatch also has access to our YouTube channel analytics. This is separate from access to our website analytics account. On request, we may share overall traffic figures and broad audience demographics from both website and YouTube analytics with sponsors or Makrwatch. We do not include individual visitor or viewer information in those summaries.
Videos, external resources, and links
Our articles and app pages include YouTube videos and thumbnails. Article players can connect to YouTube when a page loads. App-page players connect when expanded, while thumbnails can connect before playback. Google/YouTube receives technical connection information when these resources load and may process information under Google's privacy policy.
Some artwork loads from external providers, including the PrivateAlps sponsor banner. These providers receive connection information when their resources load, even if you do not click them. External and affiliate links take you to services with their own privacy practices; affiliate links may identify TechHut as the referral source.
GitHub hosts our website codebase. If you visit the repository or interact with us on GitHub, GitHub's privacy statement applies to that service.
Service providers and processing locations
We use Vercel for hosting and Web Analytics, Hetzner for our Matomo server, and Google Workspace for email. Makrwatch accesses partnership correspondence as described above. TechHut and Makrwatch operate in the United States, and our Matomo server is in Oregon. Other providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate; their processing is not limited to our Matomo server's location.
For provider information, see Vercel's privacy notice, Hetzner's data privacy information, and Google Workspace's privacy information. You can contact us for further information about providers and the arrangements relevant to your information.
How long information is kept
- Detailed Matomo visitor logs: configured for automatic deletion after 180 days.
- Matomo summary reports: retained to compare traffic over time. We currently have no defined retention period or review schedule, and automatic deletion is disabled. We do not keep Matomo database backups.
- Vercel Web Analytics reports: our standard Pro plan provides a 12-month reporting window. This is a reporting limit, not a promise that all underlying records or provider backups are deleted after 12 months.
- Email: we currently keep correspondence without a routine deletion schedule, including past partnership agreements, business records, and discussions kept for future reference.
- Analytics preferences: stored in your browser until changed or cleared, without a scheduled expiry.
Hosting/security logs and provider-held records have separate retention practices under the relevant service arrangements. The Matomo deletion setting does not control those records. You can contact us to request deletion of your information; applicable rights and exceptions are described below.
Your privacy rights
Depending on the law that applies to you and the processing involved, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, restrict its use, receive a portable copy of qualifying information, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights are subject to applicable conditions and exceptions. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Our website analytics control is an opt-out; analytics does not wait for an opt-in choice.
Send requests to brandon@techhut.tv. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity and locate relevant records. Where GDPR applies, we respond without undue delay and normally within one month. If a permitted extension is needed, we explain it within that period.
You may also complain to the relevant data protection authority. In the European Economic Area, see the EDPB's list of supervisory authorities. In the United Kingdom, see the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change and revise the date at the top of this page. You can contact us at brandon@techhut.tv with questions about this policy or your information.
